Quake 3 and Quake live – mmo fps?

Quake Live is exceptional shooter for our web browser and fast-paced multiplayer online game for adrenaline lovers. Rockets, rail guns, machine guns, frags, multi kills etc – Quake Live is free shooter worth a while.

If nobody knows what Quake Live or Quake III is, let me explain – the main difference is that in Quake Live we can play with other players using just typical browser. What you need to do in order to play is just sign-up on quakelive.com, download some addons to your browser, and wait for updates download. After that, you can play!

Never-ending tournament
Before real game, we pass the training, which qualifies us to one of skill groups; it varies from tutorials which you may find in some online multiplayer games. If you don’t feel like playing with the best don’t try to be too good. During the training I didn’t died even once and I had to fight with pure masters later. Every match which game found for me was battle for survival, where every millisecond and every jump makes a difference.

We all love playing in free online multiplayer games, it’s true. But large part of those who enjoy developing their character in role play titles, like playing in shooting games similar to Unreal Tournament series or Call of Duty.

Game is almost the same like Quake III right? Certainly when it comes to talk about game; we have good old, Duel (1v1), Team Death Match (TDM), Free For All (FFA), Clan Arena (CA), Capture The Flag (CTF) etc. but there are new, just fantastic designed maps and some game mechanics changes. Game physics has been changed, making air-control more possible. Its absence was annoying to part of players who instead of clear Quake III was choosing various mods. Also creators modified balance of weapons, placement of power-ups and items on maps, which forced to search completely new schemes instead of multiplying old ones. But it’s true, that at the beginning Q3 Arena gamers had just unbelievable dominance.

Graphics and audio
When it comes to audio-visual side, don’t expect too much. Game isn’t new, and it looks almost identically like Quake 3, popular online multiplayer game from 2006. Of course there are visible differences like more realistic shadows or reflective lights and even grain effect, but if I presented you comparison screens from both games it would be hard to tell what is what. Audio is also practically identical; are sounds of walking, but it’s rather hard to hear them because of sounds of weapons and music in the background.

About difficulty level on the servers lot of players already wrote – it’s clearly high. Even me, one who played in Unreal Tournament 3 for three years, participated in various clan fights and spend a lot of time on public servers have problems. Of course I can show some skill, but against professionals I do not stand a chance, so I’ll rather stick to online multiplayer games.

(Quake Live – unofficial trailer)

Pros:
+ Over 45 maps
+ Complete statistic
+ Cool game modes

Cos:
- Looking old
- Unbalanced weapons

Summary
It’s maybe little bit old game, but it’s still nicely made shooting multiplayer online game, with face-paced gameplay and pure fun related to entertaining game modes – I can forgive even ages graphics. Quake Live is for people who don’t like to pay for something that they launching maximally once per week there is really good game, Quake Live.
